What's New for the 2005 Mercury Sable?
Now in its last year of production, the 2005 Mercury Sable only receives a minor update. A decontented LS model has replaced the LS Premium. Formerly standard features such as automatic headlamps, automatic climate control, and leather seats are now options, but selecting the LS Premium Package on the order form adds this equipment to the Sable LS. The base GS wagon leaves the lineup, and the LS wagon will follow suit mid-year. Anti-lock brakes are now standard on all LS models, while the LS Monotone Wagon package moves to option status. The Secure package is optional on all Sables and adds side-impact airbags and all-speed traction control. Windveil Blue and Light Tundra colors are added, while Medium True Blue and Spruce Green leave the spectrum.

Advantages of the 2005 Mercury Sable:

  • Plush ride
  • Cavernous trunk
  • High safety ratings

Objections to the 2005 Mercury Sable:

  • Rental car interior
  • Luxury amenities are extra
  • Wagon goes away mid-year

Editor's Advice:
The 2005 Mercury Sable is a good choice for those who desire an affordable mid-size sedan, but don't want the cheap frills of the nearly identical Ford Taurus. Some of last year's luxury gadgets have become options, in an effort to lower the base price and attract more buyers. This being the last year for the Mercury Sable (soon to be replaced by the new Mercury Montego), the first versions to be phased out will be the wagons, which can carry a voluminous amount of cargo or hold up to seven passengers. Deals and rebates should be abundant, so you can load up on options without having to worry about emptying your wallet.
