What's New for the 2005 Mazda 3? Because it was all-new last year, changes for the 2005 Mazda 3 are rather limited. A new 15-inch wheel cover design debuts, and an optional satellite radio-ready audio system is available. Mid-year, Mazda rolled out the SP23 Edition, with a special saddle-colored leather interior, premium sound, high-gloss 17-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic headlights. The Mazda 3 SP23 Edition is painted Carbon Gray Mica and is available as a sedan or a hatchback.
Advantages of the 2005 Mazda 3:
- Available in hatchback or sedan configuration
- Premium-class features on an economy-class car
- PZEV engine rating in some states
- Incredibly fun to drive
- Comfortable for four adults
Objections to the 2005 Mazda 3: - Fully optioned this compact runs well over $20,000
- Dearth of low-end torque
- Black interiors are dour and claustrophobic
Editor's Advice: Conventional wisdom states that compact economy cars satisfy a need rather than a want; you get one because you require basic transportation and monthly payments that don't break the bank. However, the 2005 Mazda 3 may be the car that you might actually want just because it's fun and useful.
