What's New for the 2004 Volvo S40?
Three new colors debut on the 2004 Volvo S40, and a new Limited Sport Edition package will be available on just 2,500 Volvo S40s this year. It includes special alloy wheels, a power glass sunroof, a power driver seat, leather interior appointments, unique interior trim, sporty exterior trim, premium sound and a trip computer.

Advantages of the 2004 Volvo S40:

• Safety equipment
• Often sold at huge discounts

Objections to the 2004 Volvo S40:

• Cannot compete with most other entry-luxury sedans
• Tight rear seating
• Significant price premium over mainstream sedans

Since the day it arrived on U.S. shores, the Volvo S40 has been at a disadvantage. It's styled like the boxy Volvos of the past and drives more like an economy car than an entry-luxury sedan. At sticker price, the 2004 Volvo S40 cannot hope to compete with Audis, BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes, Acuras, Infinitis or Lexuses. At the heavily discounted prices for which the Volvo S40 usually sells, well-equipped versions of lesser vehicles such as the Ford Focus, Honda Accord and Nissan Altima are a better deal. The Volvo S40 replacement is due for mid-year, and cannot arrive quickly enough.
